AIM

The Academy of Indian Music (AIM) was started with a belief that even in a foreign country, there should be a place where Indian cultural art forms (music, dance, yoga and others) can be taught in their purest form. Its an idea 17 years in the making.

Today, Academy of Indian Music (AIM) can truly be called a 'Temple of Learning' - a place where both the teacher and the taught hold (music, dance and other art forms) in reverence.  Its a place where every moment leads to the awareness and appreciation of Indian music and other Indian art forms - may it be a 'thaat' in classical Indian music, a 'mudra' in classical dance or perhaps an 'asana' in yoga!  If you have come here, seeking to learn pure Indian music, we hope this is the place you will find it.  Because, as a school, we are dedicated to supporting the artistic development of the community through our well chalked-out programs.

AIM offers courses ranging from Bharatanatyam, Veena, keyboard, Harmonium and Tabla to Hindustani classical, light vocals, violin and even yoga!  These classes are being offered to more than 400 enrolled students, a number that grows each day.

The Middlesex Cultural and Heritage Commission recognizes AIM's effort at promoting Indian culture and is a supporter of its efforts.

English translation:
O! Naad (Sound or Music) Brahma, You are the Brahma (The Lord of the Universe).  We sing your glory!  May we always respect everyone (including us) and respect knowledge.
In which ever country we may live, no matter what we may wear, in which ever environment we may be, May we O! Lord, practice all fine arts unmoved by any disturbances.  O! Lord, May we be so undistinguishable in a diverse word as water gets mixed in milk.  O! Lord, may we practice such unity in diversity and take the same message in all the directions of the universe.
O Lord!  No matter what our frame of mind may be, no matter what our ways might be, and no matter who our friends and company may be, may we keep on advancing on the path of our capabilities and our compassion for others.  Brahma, O! Lord, thou are the Lord of Universe, thou are the Knowledge, thou are the wisdom, and only thou are the very Low of the Universe!  O! Lord, thou are the very basis of our breath, May we fully know, understand and comprehend that.  Glory to thee, glory to thee, glory to thee, Brahma! O! Lord!
(Launched on May 5, 2007, during Basant Bahar - the spring splendor event)

“In our culture we have such respect for musical instruments, they are like part of God.”
